چکیده

We present a review of the main phases of stellar evolution with particular emphasis on the nucleosynthesis and mixing mechanisms in lowand intermediate-mass stars. In addition to explicit studies of the effects of the first, second and third dredge-up, we also discuss cool bottom processing and hot bottom burning.

Nucleosynthesis of Elements in Low to Intermediate Mass Stars through the Agb Phase I Introduction Ii Basic Stellar Evolution

We present a review of the main phases of stellar evolution with particular emphasis on the nucleosynthesis and mixing mechanisms in low-and intermediate-mass stars. In addition to explicit studies of the eeects of the rst, second and third dredge-up, we also discuss cool bottom processing and hot bottom burning. In recent years a wealth of new abundance data has been obtained, both from stella...

Stellar nucleosynthesis is the corner-stone of many astrophysical problems. Its understanding, which can be tested by countless observations, leads to insights into the stellar structure and evolution, and provides crucial clues to the physics of the galaxies and of the universe. Precise answers can be given to the questions “When, where and how the chemical elements are synthesized in stars?”,...

The Dawes Review 2: Nucleosynthesis and stellar yields of low and intermediate-mass single stars

The chemical evolution of the Universe is governed by the chemical yields from stars, which in turn is determined primarily by the initial stellar mass. Even stars as low as 0.9M⊙ can, at low metallicity, contribute to the chemical evolution of elements. Stars less massive than about 10M⊙ experience recurrent mixing events that can significantly change the surface composition of the envelope, w...

Nucleosynthesis of light elements inside thermally pulsing AGB stars I. The case of intermediate-mass stars

The structural and nucleosynthetic evolution of 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7M stars with two metallicities (Z = 0.005 and 0.02) has been computed in detail, from the early pre-main sequence phase up to the thermally pulsing (TP) AGB phase or the onset of off-center carbon burning. Typically 10 to 20 thermal pulses have been followed for each TP-AGB object. This homogeneous and quite large set of models all...

Nucleosynthesis of s-elements in zero-metal AGB stars

Contrary to previous expectations, recent evolutionary models of zero-metallicity stars show that the development of mixing episodes at the beginning of the AGB phase allows lowand intermediate-mass stars to experience thermal pulses. If these stars, like their metal-rich counterparts, also experience partial mixing of protons from the H-rich envelope into the C-rich layers at the time of the t...
